With the next hunting season fast approaching, FOXPRO is on their game and releasing its new range of electronic predator calls. Their new top range programmable call is the XWave.
It was officially released in September 2019, though FOXPRO did not start shipping the XWave to customers until November.
With the introduction of the XWave, FOXPRO has revamped their speaker design and improved on them exponentially.
The XWave features 2 positional Xtreme High Definition (XHD) speakers. Both XHD speakers are a horn speaker with an added tweeter for improved frequency response.
The new and improved XHD speaker system allows for even better extreme volume capabilities while still maintaining super realistic sound clarity.
Quick Snapshot
With its new and different design, some people have been describing the look of the XWave as a sort of combination of the Shockwave body with the look of the CS24C speakers, though much more improved!
Pros
Cons
Design and Features
As it’s a double speaker unit, the XWave is larger in size than the usual digital game call, and it comes in at 4.75 lbs in weight. You may not be able to just throw this in the top of your backpack, but it’s still relatively transportable.
With its 4GB internal memory, the XWave is programmable, and has a sound capacity of up to 1000 sounds so you will always have the calls that you need on hand.
To get you started, it comes with 100 premium high-quality FOXPRO sounds, plus another 111 free sounds. If you XWave doesn’t have the free sounds loaded on it, you can easily access them from the FOXPRO website.
If you want to add your own calls and sounds, you can easily upload them via your desktop using the mini USB port, as long as the files are in MP3, WAV, 24B, and FXP format for compatibility.
What’s interesting to see is that for the first time FOXPRO has introduced Bluetooth compatibility with the XWAVE. This simple feature opens up a range of possibilities.
You could use your own iPhone to connect wirelessly to the XWave and play any animal sound from your own library, or at the end of a long day successfully hunting you could play music to unwind.
If you were desiring even more volume (though we think this would be a very rare case) and need to hook up extra speakers, there are two 3.5mm external speaker jacks.
Although a decoy is not included as standard with the XWave, if this is something you wanted to add to your hunting arsenal, there is also a 3.5mm auxiliary jack to allow you to connect an approved device such as a Jack Predator decoy.
To run the main caller unit, you will need 10x AA batteries to power it. Luckily FOXPRO has thought of everything, and have included a lithium battery and charger kit in the box, and the caller has a charger jack for the complete setup.
With a fresh load of batteries, and depending on how many of the functions of the XWave you use, you can expect to get a run time between 3 to 7 hours.
TX1000 Remote
The TX1000 Transmitter remote has a full color graphic LCD screen that’s large and clear for easy use.
It also comes with all the FOXPRO technology that you would expect of a new electronic game caller. When you buy the XWave, you will get:
- FOXBANG
- FOXPITCH
- FOXDATA
- FOXMOTION
- FOXCAST
- FOXFUSION
- FOXGRIP
The remote has a confirmed operating distance of over 100 yards. As with most digital calls, to get the most optimal range, make sure you have a clear line-of-sight between the game call and transmitter. Where possible, elevate the XWave off of the ground approximately 3 feet for even better results.
As for functionality, it has everything you would expect from a standard remote. It also has 50 presets, and you can view the sound list either in a single list or as categories.
It has 3 play modes, being Single, Jukebox and Repeat. The buttons illuminate for use at night time making it easier to see what you’re doing when you need it.
The remote display also has a barometer indicator, moon phase indicator, temperature indicator, battery level indicator, timer or time clock, FOXBANG technology and much more.
It’s good to note that although you would normally operate with XWave using the TX-1000 remote control, if it’s ever needed, you can also operate the XWave manually.
The remote is 3.18″ x 1.17″ x 8.78″ in size, plus comes with a lanyard loop to securely hang it from your neck while using it. The USB port is a mini-USB, and the required cable is included. You will need 3x AA batteries to power the transmitter.
FOXPRO Technology
If you are new to FOXPRO, you may not have heard of the various technology that they are known for and what makes their callers the best on the market.
Even if you have heard of it, you may not be familiar with what each function does. Below is a quick explanation:
FOXBANG
Automatically maps your caller to a predetermined setting after discharging your firearm. (See instruction manual for FOXBANG options.)
FOXMOTION
FOXMotion allows you to mimic moving prey by fading the sound from the left speaker to the right speaker (and back). This change in sounds creates perceived motion which would expect from an animal and helps “sell” the reality of your call sounds.
FOXFUSION
FOXFusion allows you to mix and match any two sounds of your choice at the same time during your calling sequence. This will help you create more complex and unique call sequences that will create intrigue in your prey and provide a more realistic scenario.
FOXPITCH
FOXPitch allows you to manipulate the “pitch” of the sound in an effort to trigger a response. As your prey comes in close, change the pitch higher or lower to create a different sound. This change will instinctively cause your prey to stop and pay attention, allowing you to get that perfect shot.
FOXDATA
Activate FOXDATA and it records real time information (temp, barometer, moon phase, stand duration, shot time) from each and every stand. Afterwards you can access the data for future reference and analyse the information captured. Over time you will be able to predict animal activity/hunting success based on hard data.
FOXCAST
FOXCast allows you to play a pre-set custom sequence to include your favorite sounds, volume levels, and even pauses. Gets you close to virtually hand-free calling allowing you to focus on getting the perfect shot.
AUTO VOLUME
Automatically ramps up and modulates your volume.
Warranty
Just as you would expect from a great company like FOXPRO, the new XWave comes with a 5 year limited warranty.
With FOXPRO priding itself on being an all American company and its products being made in the USA, you’re unlikely to have any issues.
However, if there was an unexpected problem with your XWave, know that FOXPRO will get it sorted with its unmatched customer support.
Verdict On The FOXPRO XWave
With improved technology, a whole stack of features and the XHD speakers that provide even better volume and sound quality, the FOXPRO XWave is going to give the Shockwave a run for its money.
Although the XWave is new to the market, as with anything produced by FOXPRO you know that you will receive quality.
Although the price tag may be higher than expected, we know loyal supporters of FOXPRO are going to love this new and improve programable game call.
The XWave predator caller is sure to stand the test of time, and will be the perfect addition to any avid coyote hunter’s arsenal.
