Why Buy the FOXPRO Shockwave?

The FOXPRO Shockwave is loaded with the best features we’ve ever seen in an electronic coyote call. FOXPRO’s Shockwave isn’t cheap with its nearly $500 price tag, but for the predator hunter who really wants it all, you can finally get it all with this solid unit.

Versatile Design and Features

Unlike majority of other programmable callers available, the Shockwave features its own on-board display screen on the caller itself, so you don’t have to just rely on the remote for information.

Along with scrolling buttons and a menu / select button, it will show the name and numbers of the sound list, the currently selected sound, volume level, mute status and battery level.

Rugged, Durable & Portable

The Shockwave is built with FOXPRO’s rugged ABS composite material. ABS has been tested in the toughest environments, plus it’s also good to know that it’s been made in the USA.

At 3.9 lbs, this unit is slightly larger than other e-callers on the market, however that is to be expected with the addition of the extra horn speaker and tweeter.

However, it is still quite portable with its dimensions of only 5.75 inches x 12.25 inches x 7 inches, and the typical predator hunter won’t notice much of a difference when carrying it around.

Speakers & Sound

You can tell the shockwave is already stepping it up just by looking at the way they have implemented the design. With two horn speakers and two tweeters (one on each side) that are attached by adjustable hinges, you will be able to throw sound out in an even larger radius than your standard single speaker caller.

If you find that for some reason you need even more sound, it has not one, but two external audio jacks to connect extra speakers if required. However, with the quality of these FOXPRO speakers, we don’t think you are likely to ever need to do this.

FOXPRO Shockwave Digital Game Call - Remote Display Modes

Shockwave Remote

When it comes to the FOXPRO TX1000 remote transmitter, we like to say it is the remote to rule all remotes!

It has the typical things you would expect, such as on/off, select/back, scroll, play/pause, mute, and volume control buttons.

It has a super large LCD display screen that displays all the information you need, including the calls battery level, stand duration, temperature, moon phases

It has 4 preset buttons along the top left and right side of the remote that you can program your favorites calls / sequences, allowing you quick access to the sounds you know always work.

The remote works up to 100 yards, though the actual performance may be higher or lower depending on whether you have clear line of sight and if the caller is slightly elevated.

Although not competing on the level of 300 yard remote range like ICOtec callers, the TX1000 range will be quite sufficient for majority of hunting scenarios.

Simple things like a large lanyard loop on the bottom of the remote make it easy to attach to a lanyard ensuring you never accidentally forget or misplace your remote while out in the field.

Programming Calls

The FOXPRO Shockwave is a programmable electronic caller with the ability to store up to 1000 sounds on its 4GB internal memory. As it’s an internal memory, it includes a mini usb cable to connect to your desktop computer.

FOXPRO is kind enough to pre-load it with 100 quality sounds to get you started, with more free and paid sounds available on their website.

If you are looking for some different sounds, MFK calls are compatible with FOXPRO programmable callers. If you have other sources for sounds, you can also add these as long as they are in the file format FXP, 24B, MP3, or WAV.

Decoy

If you are someone who likes to use a decoy to entice your prey right in close, the shockwave does have an auxiliary jack so you can add a decoy. Point to note though, it does need to be an approved FOXPRO decoy, so if you don’t already have one in your collection, you will need to purchase one.

Batteries

To power everything, you will need a total of 13 AA batteries, with 10 for the caller itself and then 3 for the remote. This is a pretty standard amount for batteries with the larger more powerful callers.

You can expect the batteries to last between 3-7 hours of operation, with things like volume, temperature, plus also whether you’re using both speakers or playing or two calls at the same time.

As with any electronic predator caller, we always recommend looking at either getting a FOXPRO rechargeable battery pack or investing in individual high capacity rechargeable NiMH (nickel metal hydride) batteries for the caller.

There really is nothing worse than having a day of hunting cut short by your batteries unexpectedly going flat on you.

Fox Features

The Shockwave predator caller features many FOXPRO “technologies” that you may have never seen or heard of before. The FOX FEATURES are what make the shockwave truly stand out from its competitors in the market.

Once you start using these features, you won’t ever want to go back to a caller without them. We explain these in more detail below:

FOXMOTION

Sometimes when you are using a caller, it can be hard to make your calls sound like they are coming from real animals. Coyotes are smart, if they think something is not quite right, they are going to be cautious.

Using the FOXMOTION feature, you can fade your calls from each speaker directionally, i.e. left-to-right. You can control the speed of the fade to and from each speaker, plus it also works if you have external speakers connected.

This feature will really help to “sell” your call sequences as being genuine and natural, creating the illusion that there is movement occurring.

FOXFUSION

Often calls can only play one sound at a time. However, to make your calls appear even more real and natural, you can mix and match two sounds simultaneously during a call sequence. When FOXFUSION is activated, you can also control the volume of each sound independently, including muting.

With the FOXFUSION technology, you can now create various scenarios to help lure in whatever you are hunting. For example you could play a cottontail distress sound, plus overlay it with coyote growls to seem like something really interesting is going on!

FOXPITCH

With so many hunters using similar calls and sounds, and with people often frequenting the same areas regularly, you might need the upper hand when calling in coyotes.

To help you get the perfect shot by triggering a response from your prey at the right moment, you can use FOXPITCH to manipulate the pitch of your game calls up or down. This will also make them more unique and truly add a new dimension to your call library.

FOXBANG

Within the remote, there is an internal sensor that senses when your firearm has been discharged. When you take a shot, the FOXBANG technology automatically maps your caller to a predetermined setting.

FOXBANG reacts to the report of a firearm by automatically switching to an assigned function established within the Shockwave remote. There are 8 different settings for FOXBANG.

The available functions you can link to FOXBANG activation include: FOXDATA, mute (toggles mute on/off), auxiliary (toggles auxiliary device on/off), preset 1, preset 2, preset 3, preset 4, and preset 5.

When FOXBANG is triggered, it will create a new record within your FOXDATA in addition to performing the specified action.

FOXDATA

This is our personal favorite feature out of the lot as sometimes we just want the hard truth (whether it’s good or bad) of what happened on a hunt.

With FOXDATA, you get a real-time data storage program that brings true analytics to your predator hunting.

You can access your data after each of your hunts to see what conditions were most productive and deadly during your hunt, such as:

  • what temperature was it?
  • what moon phase?
  • what barometer reading?.
  • what was the duration of the stand?
  • how long until the shot was taken?

By having the hard stats right at your fingertips, you can focus on your hunt in the moment, then take the time to analyze all the information at a later time. This really allows you to iterate on your technique and improve as a predator hunter over time.

Verdict on the FOXPRO Shockwave

This is, hands down, the best electronic coyote call we have ever used. The Shockwave is unlike any other predator call we’ve ever reviewed because it has true data collection and hunting analytics.

If you’re already a stud hunter, the only way you’re going to get more technically adept is by diving into data. FOXDATA lets you review every hunt you take the FOXPRO Shockwave on. You can see the times you were most successful, and the times you had more difficulty. That alone is worth the price tag.

Even if you consider yourself to be a beginner and think that the Shockwave is perhaps a little too feature rich for your needs, you can easily take your skills to the next level and start to improve exponentially with the information collected.

So, if you aren’t scared off by the higher price tag, the FOXPRO Shockwave is a must-have for serious hunters. Buy it and never look back as it will have you covered for many years into the future. You’ll probably never need to buy another electronic caller in your life!
